LI - To add mentally two 2-digit numbers and a 2-digit number to a 3-digit number
This week we will be doing more adding. Last week we learnt a new way of adding where we write the numbers in columns to add them. Today we are adding in our heads. We need to be able to do both. Being able to add ‘in your head’ is crucial to help you add in columns.
- 62 + 75 = How should we would solve this? Well, there are various methods: partition the numbers, add the 1s 2 + 5 = 7 then the 10s 60 + 70 = 130, then add these totals together 130 + 7= 137
- We can also count on six 10s from 75, then add 2 more. We do not need to write it; they are only two 2-digit numbers!

LI- To be able to count back in 10s and 1s to solve subtraction (not crossing 10s)
What is 58 - 32? Let’s subtract together using the hundred square grid.

LI- To be able to revise number bonds to 10
- Do we know our bonds to ten (pairs of numbers that add to make ten) by heart? e.g. 3 + 7 = 10. We can also write this as 7 + 3 = 10. It is the same, they both total ten. 7 + 3 = 3 + 7
- Number bonds to 10
- 9 + 1 = 10
- 8 + 2 = 10
- 7 + 3 = 10
- 5 + 5 = 10
- 4 + 6 = 10
- 0 + 10 = 10
- We need to know these by heart. Read/practice them at home.
