LI: To be able to use the subjunctive. 

The subjunctive form of verbs refers to what someone imagines, wishes or hopes will happen.  We usually use it in formal writing rather than everyday speech - you will hear people saying, "If I were you.........".  This is the subjunctive verb being used, it is not correct to say, "If I was you......".

The head teacher suggested that the boys stop playing football.

I wish the house were closer to the park.

stop and were are using the subjunctive verb. 

Using the Subjunctive. Complete the subjunctive sentences by choosing a suitable verb.  One has been done for you.

LI:  To be able to use the ee sound spelt ei after c.

The rhyme "i before e, except after c" can help you to spell the ee sound. After c, the letters that make the ee sound are the other way around: e comes before i.  There are, as always, a number of exceptions to the rule.  These exceptions just need to be learned, for example, seize.
