Expanded Column Method

Use the expanded column method to add 2- and 3-digit numbers.

Year 2 (Group A)

- To add 2-digit numbers using 10p and 1p coins (using partitioning) with totals less than 100.

 10p coins and 1p coins can be used to make each price of an object.

• How can we add 70p and 15p?
• That’s easy: add 15 by adding 10 then 5!
• So the total is 85p.
