You are now in your second-to-last year at Marsh Green! We know you can make it a successful year, and there will be lots to learn and enjoy along the way. Click on the subject links to see examples of work, useful resources and information to help you with your learning.
Spellings: You will receive new spellings on Monday, ready for a test on Friday. They will be stuck in your school diary. Practise them at home during the week and ask someone at home to check them with you. You might find it helpful to write the words down or practise saying them aloud.
Reading: Read at home at least three times a week. You can choose any book you enjoy, including stories from different cultures. Each time you read, ask your parent or carer to write a short comment in your diary. They could mention a new word you learnt, how well you understood the story or a word you needed help reading. Your teacher will check for three comments every Friday so that you can be entered into our Reading Raffle!
School diary: Bring your diary to school every day. Your teacher may write in it during Guided Reading, and it helps us keep track of your reading.
Times Table Rock Stars: Spend at least 45 minutes each week practising your times tables. Play in Studio mode so your time is recorded. Your teacher will check this every Friday.
Independence: Year 5 is a chance to get ready for Year 6 and, eventually, secondary school. Take responsibility for knowing what you need each day, bringing the right things to school and sharing your own ideas.
jSax (the musical instrument we are learning to play): If you take a jSax home, remember to bring it back every Tuesday for your music lesson.
PE: Year 5 PE is usually on Wednesday morning. Bring the correct PE kit, including green tracksuit bottoms and black shorts. Black trainers or plimsolls should only be worn on PE days.
Clubs: If you apply for a club, wait until your parent or carer has been told that you have a place. Clubs are popular, so applying does not mean you have a place automatically.
Be on time: Arrive at 8:35 am, ready to start the day. We make the most of every minute in Year 5!
