Welcome to Year 5 and a warm welcome from both of us; Mr Chin (5AC) and Mr Cross (5GC).
This is going to be a very busy and exciting year for your children and we hope them, and you, are looking forward to the things we have planned. They have the privilege of learning to play the ukulele this year as well weekly music sessions where the children will experience playing the xylophone and drumming. Much of our learning this year is topic, or theme based, which allows the children the opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills across the curriculum and really delve deeper into the topic that we are studying. So far this term, we have begun to enjoy our topic of World War II and our book of Friend or Foe.
Year 5 expectations:
If you have any concerns or queries, do not hesitate to speak to either of us.
We look forward to seeing you throughout the year at Family Fridays, Marvellous Maths Mondays and on our school trips.
WOW! What a great World Book Day we had in 5GC. On a personal note, I would just like to thank everyone for the effort they put into their costumes and for the wonderful support we had during our parade; everyone looked amazing!
After the parade, we had a fantastic World Book Day assembly where our class winners were announced; Greta and Ruth, for their fantastic outfits.
We then had a class quiz inspired by the day itself with lots of interesting and challenging questions, a speed dating activity where the pupils got the chance to speak to each other about their characters and what books they were from. Then we had a chance to look at some clues and try and figure what our book was called and what it would be about - using our prediction skills.
Next, we read our book and got the chance to talk to each other about whether our predictions were correct or not and then we discussed the themes that the book explores (loneliness, happiness, dreaming, birthdays).
We ended the day by sharing books and stories with children from the Foundation classes and then producing some art inspired by our book; Gorilla by Anthony Browne

Here is Alfie who won the 100 Day T-shirt competition for class 5GC! WOW! What a great effort. Well done Alfie!! ![]()
