Transition from EYFS to Year 1

As children move from Reception into Year 1, we aim to make the transition as smooth, positive and exciting as possible. We recognise that children learn best when they feel confident, secure and ready for new challenges. Throughout the year, we carefully prepare children for the next stage of their learning by building on the strong foundations developed within the EYFS. In Year 1, children continue their phonics journey through the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised programme, developing their confidence in reading and writing. In mathematics, we use Mastering Number to develop children's number sense, mathematical understanding, reasoning and problem-solving skills. We provide opportunities for children to become familiar with the more structured approach to learning in Year 1.
