Year 1
Welcome to Year 1
We would like to take this opportunity to wish you a warm welcome to Year 1’s class page!
Year 1 is an important transition year, where children are moving out of The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and into Key Stage 1. To make this transition smoother and to support your child's progress there are several things you can do. Firstly, listen to your child read at least three times a week. Secondly, help your child to learn their weekly spellings. Thirdly, support your child with their homework.
Now that we are back in school, our aim is to close the gaps in Year 1 as much as possible. With that in mind, Phonics has become a priority in Year 1 more than ever before as it teaches children to read and write. Usually, Year 1 have a Phonic Screening test in June. There are many free games they can play on the following website www.phonicsplay.co.uk and if you have a tablet device or smartphone, there are also many phonic apps available to making phonic learning fun!
We recognise that in order to be successful in school, our children need support from both home and school. A strong partnership with you will make a great difference in your child’s education. If you have any questions or queries, please feel free to speak to us or contact us via:
