Year 1
Welcome to Year 1
Welcome to Year 1’s class page. The children are really enjoying their new topic "Let's Go to Africa".
Year 1 is an important transition year, where children are moving out of The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and into Key Stage 1. To make this transition smoother and to support your child's progress there are several things you can do. Firstly, listen to your child read at least three times a week. Secondly, help your child to learn their weekly spellings and practise their times tables. Thirdly, support your child with their homework. The homework format has changed, your child now has a new fun and exciting homework sheet complete.
The children in Year 1 will have a Phonic Screening test in June. There are many free games they can play on the following website www.phonicsplay.co.uk and if you have a tablet device or smartphone, there are also many phonic apps available to making phonic learning fun!
We recognise that in order to be successful in school, our children need support from both home and school. A strong partnership with you will make a great difference in your child’s education. If you have any questions or queries, please feel free to speak to us.
